Different ways to annoy you

indexPairings: Zifeng and Yanuo

Du Zifeng would anytime swear from the bottom of his hear that he was completely in love with his new wife, Yanuo. He loved every little thing about her- her smile, her confidence, her beauty, her loyalty and most of all her heart. But there were those few times in his happy life, where he would bite his tongue on those words. After marriage, he learned those few quirky things that she would do that sometimes got on his nerves.

The foremost of them would be her skill of completely shutting him off. Whenever they had a fight, she would turn a blind eye on him and pretend as if he does not exist. She would talk to or look at anyone but him. He would be completely ignored, until he was left squirming like a lost puppy in need of attention.

One of the most severe incidences that he could recall was over a month ago at Uncle Tian’s Coffee shop. Earlier that morning after a sparring session between the two that ended up in a tie,  Yanuo offhandedly started teased him that his skills were rusty. She claimed that she had gone easy on him because of which the match had ended up in a draw. Nobody could deny the fact that they were excellent as a team, their movements and style were the most compatible. However, Zifeng always held a pride in his skills and refused to give in. He retaliated that he was the one that had gone easy on her.

His wife’s skills were on par with him, he could gladly admit that. But  her annoyed expression as  she argued with him about who was better was so cute, that he couldn’t help but pull her leg further. The silly argument had gone quite long with him offering quick comebacks which annoyed her further as he laughed at her reactions. However, he did not realize that he had taken it too far unto the point where she refused to look at him.

That very evening, Zifeng had received a joyous news from his long time buddy. Qingyang had called to invite them over for dinner over to Uncle Xingtian’s cafe, to celebrate his engagement to Yang Nana. Zifeng could hear Nana’s excited giggles over the phone as he extended his congrats and rushed to Yanuo to deliver the good news. His wife threw various questions at him in excitement but suddenly became stern when she realized that she was still upset with him. For the entire journey, she refrained from talking t him in more than two or three syllables and had diverted her attention on her sister-in-law-Zihan, who was busy barking orders at her boyfriend Guang Chao in midst of their conversation.

When they walked in the cafe, Zifeng was suprised to find Xiao Jing already present and helping the newly engaged couple in setting up the table. There was a sudden loud squeal that erupted from the girls who rushed to hug the young girl of their group offering their hearty congratulations.

Zifeng hugged his buddy while teasing him about finally stepping up and popping up the question. It had been a joyous occasion for all of them since his childhood buddy had finally gathered his senses as sealed the deal of their relationship with the young girl. Nana, who was such a lively girl was perfect for his friend, who needed to bring him out of his shell and live life to the fullest. He had found that sort of companionship with his wife and was glad Qingyang did too.

The girls including Nana had gotten closer ever since they met at Zifeng and Yanuo’s wedding . Zihan and Xiao Jing banded together in dressing up their new-born sister, Yanuo who became a experimental model for them whenever they went out shopping. Not only would his wife return home with heaps of shopping bags but would also return with a new hair do or makeup on.

The funniest was when, Zihan would train her to walk in high heels but would always end up falling flat on her face. He tried stopping them because he loved his wife just the way she was, in women’s or men’s clothes. But later it seemed that Yanuo was the one who started enjoying exploring the more feminine side of hers which she never got to enjoy, so who was he to stop them.

Another victim of their’s was the youngest of them all, Yang Nana. She was doll to them, who looked  adorable in whatever she wore. The girls who always dressed in baggy clothes was now decked up in skirts and dresses like girls her age. She looked more youthful, and prettier ever since she started recovering from her surgery, looking more healthier than the pale look she always carried. Also, his buddy Qingyang, also seemed to appreciate this change. He always teased him whenever he caught him staring or sneaking glances at the young girl, he was truly smitten in love.

They all were busy having dinner at the table, chatting away while his wife seemed more busy. Zifeng  praised his brows when he found the newly engaged couple being lovely-dovey, as Nana took care of Qingyang by peeling his shrimps yet again. Not wanting to loose to his buddy, Zifeng nudged his wife who just sneered at him. He faked a cough to make point while pointing at the shrimps with his eyes, but she paid no heed. So, he decided that if she refused to take care of him, he could do it instead.

So as a token of apology, he passed her a plate of peeled shrimps while grinning at her, but she just looked at him briefly and returned a mock smile. His eyes grew wide when she stood from her seat and had the audacity to pass those peeled shrimps to Guang Chao and Qingyang, over him. That was the time he realized, how royally pissed she was and how cruel her revenge could be.

The entire table started at her shock and  question but she simply avoided their gazes and sat down ,continuing her conversation. He sat stunned for a while and turned to his sister Zihan and Nana for their support, wanting them to protest in jealousy. However, he was surprised to see them simply ignore it while laughing it off amongst themselves themselves. Apparently, Yanuo had the told the girls all about their little fight and they understood that she was just doing it to tease him.

On the other hand, Qingyang and Guang Chao looked genuinely stunned at the whole scenario and  stared back at him in disbelief. Guang Chao, not knowing what to do at the shrimp on his bowl, simply picked it with his chopsticks and hesitantly put it in his mouth. Qingyang quickly recovered his composure and looked over  worried at his friend. He raised his eyebrows in question at his friend, who just sighed in defeat while shaking his head.

Eventually, Yanuo forgave him when she decided that he suffered enough. Qingyang had a hearty laugh when Zifeng explained the entire scenario to him, who just  gave him a threat in the words-

‘Wait till it’s your turn. Then, then you will realize how not funny it is. I will have a hearty laugh then too.’

To extract revenge, Zifeng tried to do the same whenever he was upset with her  but instead, it never lasted for even more than fifteen minutes. He could hardly ever keep his hands off her.  Yanuo always managed to make up to him through her kisses and touches, which always made him happy. So, in the end you could say that Yanuo was the one who wore the pants in their relationship, sometimes even literally.

Another quirk of hers that annoyed him was her obsession with stinky tofu. He could never really  understand people who managed to eat it. There was plenty of better food in the world, but why a eat food that smells so bad. No doubt it must be tasting good, but the problem was that Yanuo absolutely loved it. It was okay if she ate it herself, but she would be hell bent on him trying it. She always told him once he got past the bad smell, he would love it.  He could sacrifice his life for her, but eating that food would be a complete no. She even tried provoking him by telling him to man up, but his answer was still a definite no. It was not his fault that he was sensitive to smell and had a week stomach for it.

The last one did not really annoy him, but he rather found it funny and interesting. He did not understand why she would always insist that one should wear their left socks first, then the right one. He never understood the logic behind her habit, nor did she have an explanation for it.

But right now, it seemed like Mrs. Du Yanuo was the one that was annoyed with him. Marriage was a funny thing, the person who you could not find a fault in before, slowly you find something that will bother you, but you still love him with all your heart.

Du Zifeng was always particular of keeping things in it’s place. He was organized when it comes to his work, at home or office but certain habits seemed to surpass his keen eye.

Leaving the drawers half shut or leaving the doors of the cabinets or their wardrobes open. Yanuo would often end up hurting herself when  the drawers hit her leg while getting off their bed or end up getting hit by the door while absentmindedly walking past it. But these were silly quirks that did not really matter.

However, more annoying were the comebacks he had when she complained about him making their bed in the morning. But no, rather than complying he would discourage her from doing it too. Apparently, nothing would make a difference even if she did it.

“I avoid making the bed because it’s ‘just going to get messed up again tonight!”

That would be his answer whenever she nagged at him, sometimes even wriggling his eyebrows to suggest his intentions for the night. Sometimes, his boldness made her blush but there were times when she wants to get into a well-made bed and just drift off to sleep.

Probably the most annoying one was that he never be normal in terms of the weather around him. Either, he was too cold or too hot.He would either flare up the air-conditioner leaving her shivering under their blankets in the hot weather , or else he would turn up the heater in the room instead of wearing warmer clothes whenever it got chilly.

Other woman would find it sweet, but Du Yanuo couldn’t help but love and hate him at the same time, because her husband always ended putting her in a tough spot. Not only did he remember their anniversaries and special occasions, he was a complete romantic showering her with surprises and gifts. She was not the one to complain being at the receiving end, but Yanuo always seemed to be lacking in the romantic department.

The last one was the most adorable and silly quirk that he had. It was when she would find him asleep in odd places. Sh would walk him from in sleep so and ask him to sleep in a more comfortable setting like their bed.He would wake up startled with swollen eyes, but still insist that he was not sleeping. On one particular occasion, she even managed to take a picture of him while he was napping and then proceeded to wake him up. Yet his answer was the same. She held up her phone to his face, so that he could get a clear look at the evidence. The picture on her cellphone was a blatant proof that had him tongue tied for an answer, which lead him to zoom out of the room in a fit of embarrassment.

Despite everything that she found annoying, he was still a perfect husband to her.

Yes, she would always hurt herself whenever he left the doors or drawers open, but it was the moment whenever he would come running to her with sprays and pain relief patches that would make her anger melt away.

Though she would shiver under the blanker because he lowered the temperature of room too much, but he would not fail to hug her tightly under their sheets and pull her close to him to give her warmth.

Even if her romantic gestures were always either fail or turn into a disaster, but just receiving a gesture from his wife  was enough to make Du Zifeng be over the moon. He would sport a goofy grin all day with happiness and brag about her.

Yanuo realized one thing for sure, that she had married the right man. If the most annoying things for her regarding her husband, were as trivial as these, then he was most compatible man for her. Even if they were not compatible, their respect and love for eachother would be more than enough to make this marriage work.

You Chose Me Chapter 8 [Monstar fanfic]

8.D-day

The weeks had passed like a quick breeze and it had become impossible for Nana to believe that she was a bride today. It was her wedding day and she was freaking out as it seemed nothing more than a dream. She imagined that she would eventually marry a guy that she loved, which was true but they have been dating for less than a month and they were just eighteen for heaven’s sake.

She was sailing between the ship of happiness and nervousness. Being a wife would mean a big deal, that she realized when the two families had a official meeting with the exchange of gifts and rituals. Even until then, the thought did not occur to her that she would now be living with Sunwoo’s family until they could manage themselves, which was still a few years away. Her feet turned cold at the spot and she began having second thoughts. Initially, she kept this all to herself but she couldn’t take it anymore and she spilled her guts out to her fiance. He tried reassuring her that it would all be fine and that he would always be with her at all costs.

His reassurance had very little effect, but she felt better after letting him know.It had been almost three days since she had seen him in person, though they spoke on the phone constantly . But it was difficult to hold a long conversation because of all the interruptions, either her parents wanted her to try something or his parents had needed him to go somewhere. Most of her time was engaged in bridal beauty treatments, which did little to relax her but apparently did wonders on her glow. Her mother’s words, not hers. Sharing all her events of the day on the phone with Sunwoo always earned her chuckle on the other side.

He asked her random questions about what colors she liked, what sort of bed sheets she used , whether she liked stuffed animals etc. , which she found weird until he explained that his mother was decorating the room for her and wanted their opinion. Nana’s breath caught in her throat for a while at the thought of sharing a room with him. Her silence was understood by him and he reassured her that it was her room that his mom was preparing. He would be living in his room as always. She breathe a sigh of relief because she was not at all ready for that level in their relationship as to share a room with him.

“Chill down Nana. My mom’s busy preparing your room. That were her questions, so if it felt weird to you, I felt more weird asking them. ”

“Ah! Yeah…I understand.”

“What were you thinking?”

“Nothing at all.”

“You freaked out didn’t you?”

“No. I did not…there was nothing to freak out about.”

“You will have your own room. Mine is a little away from yours. You really have a dirty mind Kim Nana.”

“Nonsense. I thought nothing of that sort. It’s you who made it sound all wrong. I’m just glad that you will be away and not annoy me.”

“Oh really. I’m more glad because I won’t be surrounded by magazine cuttings, mannequins and clothing. I will be happy to be in my own sanctuary.”

“Say’s the one who has been spending all his time studying in my studio apartment.”

“I only did that because that was the only time we had to spend together. I dare you to deny that you did not like having me there.”

“No, I did not. You are very distracting so, it’s hard to concentrate on my work.”

“I am  distracting to you? I did not know that I had that sort of effect on you.”

“Stop twisting my words, Jung Sunwoo.”

“Okay fine. But if you ever really feel like it. You can always join me in my room.”

“I’m hanging up.”

“No don’t. See now you are twisting my words. I mean when I’m studying , you can be in my room like I do in your studio.”

“Hmm….whatever you say. I really need to keep the phone now. I’m tired and need to rest for tomorrow.”

“Okay. See you tomorrow at our wedding.” He said stressing on the our part.

She realized that he was getting all the more silly and flirtatious with her. That’s how their conversation had gone last night before she lay awake for hours  on her bed for finally falling asleep. She kept having frightening thoughts and even thought of running away for a moment from her own wedding, but her thoughts laid to rest as she received a message from him.

She felt even better at his message wishing a good morning as usual because for her it seemed that he cared enough to calm her fears down. She had woken fairly early because they had a lot to prepare before they reached the wedding hall. She had to get her hair & makeup done and change into her wedding down before she reached her wedding venue. The only thing that she liked amongst all the wedding preparations and chaos was her gown. She was in love with it, and couldn’t wait for Sunwoo to see her in it. She wondered in anticipation of what Sunwoo’s reaction would be, whether he would like it or not because even she thought the dress looked beautiful on her.

Her parents and she reached the wedding hall to find that Sunwoo’s family had already reached and were greeting some of the early guests. They had been waiting on her and escorted her to the waiting room. Her mother was there with her all the while, but left when Eunha and Seyi joined her. Soon enough, even his parents and grandmother had come to see the bride and gushed over how beautiful she looked making her feel embarrassed.

“Nana, you look so beautiful today.” Eunha and Seyi gushed over the bride and her lovely gown.

“Has Sunwoo seen you yet in this dress?”

“Not really.”

“Be ready Nana, he won’t be able to take his eyes off you.”

“Ahem..okay.” Was all she could say in response in embarrassment.

“Nana, you love Sunwoo right?” Seyi suddenly questioned her and got the bride flustered who could only nod in reply.

“What about Sunwoo? Does he feel the same?”

“I think so…”

“He definitely does or you two would not have come this far.” Eunha chimed in.

The two girls smiled at each other and looked back at Nana who just stared back in confusion. Before the girls could explain, there was a knock on the door and Eunha opened the door to let the visitors in. Her fellow male band mates had entered to greet the bride and were awestruck looking at the tough girl who looked like a beautiful swan in her wedding gown.

“You look like a total different person, tough girl. Where’s the Kim Nana we know?” Seolchan tried to joke to cover his awestruck expression, causing everyone in the room to laugh.

“He means, you look beautiful Nana.” Kyudong complimented her with DoNam nodding his head in agreement. The air between the two teens still seemed tense despite which Nana thanked him.

Soon they heard another knock on the door with her Father entering to inform that the wedding ceremony was going to begin soon. Her friends left the room leaving her alone with her father. He looked the same as always, donned in his black suit with a poker face which his daughter most likely inherited from him. They seemed awkward at the moment but she could feel that her father had many things to say to her.

“Are there many people out there?” She questioned in the midst.

“In your terms, yes there are. But compared to other weddings this is quite a low key affair.” He replied to her with a smile.

“Okay.” She replied with an edge of nervousness in her voice.

“Nana” Her father called out to her as she turned her face towards  him in response.

“I know I have not been a good father to you. You had to go through a lot of hurdles because of me and your mother. Though we never really showed it, I want you to know that we really really love you. You are our only precious daughter.”

Nana felt the tears well up in her eyes and she bit bit on her lip to stop the tears from forming. Her father kept looking ahead of him without turning to face his daughter.

“To be honest, I really don’t want to give you away just yet. You are so young. But if that’s what you want from me, then I will give it to you. But you show know that if that if you ever want to come back or need any help, we will be there. No questions asked.”

Nana could already feel the tears running down past her cheeks and quickly turned in search of a tissue with her head ducked down.  As she tried to peer through the blurriness of eyes, she saw a hand giving out a tissue. She quickly grabbed it wiping her tears only to come face to face with the smiling face of her father. Nana could never recall of her father smiling like that, since his line of profession required him to be rough and void of expression.

“Nana, if you still want to runaway. I already have my men stationed outside. We can still sneak away in the back and no one will know.” He offered with a teasing smile and his daughter could only stifle her laugh though her tears.

Soon, the father daughter were requested to get prepared for their entry as the ceremony were going to begin soon. They could hear the announcements through the hall doors and soon, it was the cue for the bride to enter.

For the brief second, Nana thought of suddenly taking up on her father’s previous offer seriously, but she soon felt a tug of her arm as her father held her hand and slowly place it on his arm. She inhaled a sharp breath and exhaled letting her self calm down. She nodded in approval and the door opened for them as the music started playing.

They matched their steps evenly down the aisle as the attention of all the people present in the room turned to the bride. Nana looked from the corner of her eye at the guests gathered, she could only recognize a few known faces only. She finally looked ahead to see her groom dressed sleekly in his black and white tuxedo who was looking back as her and waiting for her. He looked much more handsome than she had ever seen him before causing her to blushed. His hair was neatly done and he flashed a charming smile over his face. Sunwoo bowed to her father and her father took her hand and gently placed it in Sunwoo’s palm.

The bride and groom turned towards the altar. Soon, the officiator began reading their vows and and the couple said their ‘I do’s.’  Sunwoo and Nana soon exchanged their wedding rings and were officially declared as married followed by a round of applause and cheers through the room. For the couple, the moments flashed in a blur as they just went through the motions without thinking about it in their nervous bout.

The newly married couple now bowed in front of both the bride and groom’s parents and elders seeking their blessing for a blissful married life ahead.  The guests soon approached the couple congratulating and offering their bests wishes and taking pictures with them. Sunwoo noticed Nana shifting on her feet and he turned to wards her in concern.

“Is something wrong Nana?”

“Its nothing. My feet are hurting because of the heels.”

“Do you want to change them now?” He asked in concern.

“No. I can’t do that know.” She said quickly.

“Then?” He asked her in question.

“No. I can manage. It’s not that bad. I can wait till everything is over.”

“Don’t worry it till be over soon.”

She saw Sunwoo turned towards Eunha and Seyi murmuring something amongst themselves. She could only tilt her head on his peculiar behavior.

She were soon photographed with only their family and also another one with their friends. The remaining pictures taken were only of the newly wed couple and they were glad when it was all over.

Nana and Sunwoo then left to change from their wedding attire before leaving the hall. As Nana reached the dressing room, Eunha and Seyi handed her a bag. She opened it to find a pair of flat shoes in them.

“Whats this for?” She asked confused.

“Sunwoo asked us if we could arrange a pair of flats for you since your feet were hurting in the high heels you are wearing. This was the only one we could arrange in such short notice.”

Nana smiled as her new husband’s small gesture. Husband, it sounded weird and foreign to her. She giggled to herself but her mother soon rushed her to change.

“Your husband is already taking care of you.” Her mother teased her as she helped Nana out of her gown and left the room for Nana to change her clothes leaving her an attire that was arranged for her.

Nana changed from her white down to a more formal attire which her mother had prepared specially for her to wear at her in-laws.It was blue clean cut dress that accentuated her figure but being enough modest with remaining accessories. It was different from the clothes her mother normally wore because the said woman had a strong and bold fashion sense. Nana sat down for a moment allowing her to take in the fact that she was now a married woman. She turned her wedding ring on her finger and smiled to herself.

Nana left her room to find Sunwoo waiting for her now changed into more comfortable attire. He smiled at her and looked at her feet now dressed in flats.

“Feel better now?”

“Yes I do. Thanks.”

“C’mon, lets go. Our families are probably waiting for us.”

He grabbed her hand in his and led her out of the venue to find their parents talking to each other. Nana noted that her bags were being loaded into  Sunwoo’s families care and her mother was making sure they got all of it.

Upon seeing the couple, the parents offered them smiles but it seemed different. Sunwoo’s family sported bright smiles at the thought of taking their new daughter-in-law home. Whereas her parents had sad smiles on their faces about sending their precious daughter away. It finally dawned on her that she would not be going home to her parents but to her new husband and his family.

Nana was quiet and just gave a small replies through the time when she bid farewell to her parents.. She could hear Sunwoo and his family reassuring her parents that they will take good care of her. She soon got into car with Sunwoo who guided her in and bid farewell. The image for their figure growing smaller and further away made her depressed

Noting her quiet and sad demeanor Sunwoo tugged on her arm.

“Whats wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Tell me what’s going on in your mind?”

“Nothing much.”

“Still tell me.”

“Nothing really to worry about. It’s just dawned to me that I will never be going home anymore, but will now be going to you home and family.”

“Nana, its not the olden times anymore. You can go to your parents home whenever you want. See them whenever you want.”

“I know that. But it still feels different to me. Rather than leaving with my parents. I’m leaving with yours. Its just foreign and strange for some reason. Though I was hardly ever in my home and always spending time at the studio, I think I will miss my room.”

“I understand that you will. But we won’t be living in my parents home for too long. ”

Nana looked at him confused and surprised at his sudden news. Realizing that she was waiting for an explanation, Sunwoo continued speaking.

“We will move out from there once we graduate from school. Though it is still a year away, it will be better for us that we start living independently from our parents. I had told my family that we would live away immediately, but they insisted that we were too young and we were still in school. We still needed to be take care of and just concentrate on our studies for the  final year. ”

Nana was shocked at Sunwoo’s confession. He never really seemed the type who would want to live apart from his family so soon.

“Now that I think, it was too rash of me to think that we could live alone.” He told her but it seemed that more than Nana he was telling himself that.

Of course, it was rash. The thought of living under the same roof with him without anybody around bought blood rushing to her cheeks and neck. The mere though seemed scandalous enough to curl her toes and she looked him ridiculously. As if he understood the thoughts swarming her head, he let out chuckle and gave her a small smile.

“Nana” He called out to her in a soft but serious tone.

“Hmm?” She hummed.

“Its not that  you will miss your home, rather it is that you will miss you parents.”

“Maybe.” Nana smiled to her self sadly at the though of her parents as watched the view outside the window of the car. She felt Sunwoo place his hand on hers and intertwine their fingers  together as he watched the view outside his side of the window.

They soon reached his home and Nana got of the car looking at her new home she would be living in for a while. Her new family welcomed her with open arms and tried to make her feel as much comfortable as possible. Her new husband was being extra attentive to her as he noted how depressed she look in the car. Soon, Nana began to get comfortable as she spoke to them and dinner seemed to go much better than the last time she had been there fretting about the lies that they had made up.

Nana felt most comfortable with Sunwoo’s grandmother who seemed to be sincere with her in her interactions. Though his mother also was sweet to her, she could see that she was trying very hard to make her feel as comfortable as possible. She was still grateful to her. On the other hand, Sunwoo’s father seemed more quieter and distant though he seemed amiable enough to share small conversations with. Despite everything, Nana still felt out of place amongst the people who were new to her.  She had always been a loner and never really been close to anyone for a long time. Apart from Sunwoo or ColorBar members, she hardly spoke to anyone. Though she had become more open towards others now, she realized that she had a long way to go. She called her parents a little past dinner to let them know she was doing well , knowing that they would be anxiously waiting for her call.

Later in the night Sunwoo and his mother guided her to her room. His mother joyously described all the things she had prepared for her daughter-in-law making Nana smile at her cuteness. Sunwoo was right, his mother was a lot different from him, she seemed more of a joyous and expressive person.

“Thank you for putting so much effort. It’s really beautiful, I like it a lot.” This caused the older woman to adorn a bright smile in satisfaction for her efforts.

“You better rest now. You must be exhausted from such a hectic day. We’ll leave you alone now. If you need anything let me or Sunwoo know.”

“Yes. Thankyou.” Nana replied.

“C’mon Sunwoo. Lets leave so she can rest.”

“You go ahead Mom. I’ll leave after a while.”

Sunwoo’s mom hesitated for the moment about leaving them alone but slowly retreated from the room.

Sunwoo grabbed Nana’s hand and let her to sit on her bed next to him. Nana stared in confusion at Sunwoo’s behavior and tried to stop ridiculous & embarrassing thoughts from entering her head.

“Nana, do you feel better now?”

“Yeah I do. I’m comfortable, your family is very sweet trying to make as comfortable as possible.”

“That’s good then. I’m glad. Did you speak to your parents?”

“I did. Just some time after dinner.”

“Okay then. I will be leaving now. Sleep comfortably and let me know if you need anything.”

Nana nodded her head in acknowledgement and Sunwoo affectionately patted her head, before leaving the room. She finally changed into her pyjamas and got ready for bed. It felt weird to be in a different room. She giggled at the fact that she was spending her wedding night alone in a room with her husband away in his own room. the mere that she was a married woman seemed funny to her.

Sleep not coming to her soon, she realized that she spent the last few nights on the phone with Sunwoo before falling asleep and it had now become a routine. Out of curiosity she messaged him a king if he were awake but was shocked to see her phone ringing in an instant. She answered the call hesitantly wondering if she disturbed him.

“I’m sorry if I disturbed you.” She apologized immediately.

“Not at all. In fact, I wanted to call you but wondered if you were asleep.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know. Maybe it’s become a routine for us.”

“Isn’t it funny that we are now in the same house in different rooms but still talking over the phone.”

“Oh. Do you want me to come over to your room then?” He offered.

“No!” She replied almost instantly.

“Okay. So are you still uncomfortable that you can’t sleep?”

“No. Honestly, It does not feel as different as I thought it would. Maybe you are right, it’s more about the familiar faces than the surroundings. But I still think I will miss my home.”

“Don’t worry. You get more familiar with my family and here soon too. I promise to help you get familiar and as comfortable as possible.”

“Thanks.”

“Nana, I forgot to tell you something.”

“What is it?”

“You looked beautiful in your wedding dress today.” Nana blushed in surprise and delight.

“Thank you.” She replied trying her best not seemed as if she had been waiting for him to say it for the entire day.

“Were you waiting for me to say it?” He teased her a bit.

“Not at all. But you did not look so bad either.”

“Oh really. Thank you for that. I got  a lot of compliments from many women too.” He teased trying to incite a reaction from her which for his amusement, she did.

They continued their conversation for a while about the wedding at people they meet today. When both of them began yawning from exhaustion and sleep finally started getting the better of them, they decided to end the call. The new couple then finally drifted off into deep slumber in their respective rooms.

Perfect Match Chapter 5 [Monstar fanfic]

feat175.Explanations

It was already dark as he peered outside the window next to his seat. Sunwoo wondered if he would have enough courage to come back again tomorrow. The chances seemed bleak since his resolve was already shattering slowly, as he fought with his inner urge to get down at a random stop before reaching his destination. It was a now or never situation for him, but there were high chances that even if he were to still go to his intended destination, the person he wanted to see would not be there.

Nana had suddenly turned up at his college to return his book, which made no sense to him. He was damn sure that she had come for a whole other reason, like she had something to say to him. If that were true, then he would love to hear it because her casual attitude on their last meeting irked him.

The past few days were a blur in his memory, as he was always preoccupied in thoughts which were a rare occurrence in his otherwise busy life. He was always focused on his work or studies and rarely distracted. He was set on his goal but on a sudden day his past caught up on him.
The fact that the said girl had possibly taken the first step to have a clear conversation pleased him. The only thing he could hope now as he reached his final stop was of Nana still being there. The sound of doors opening alerted him as he quickly grabbed his bag and got down from the bus.
It did not take him long before he found the store and was glad to find it open. He pushed the glass doors silently praying and scanned the interior of the store. It looked like they were about to close when he spotted the petite figure at the end of aisle of apparels.

He watched her as their gazes met and noticed how eyes turned from recognition to that of surprise. At least she looked pleased to see him as she walked towards him with a smile.  He offered an awkward smile in return not knowing how to  actually talk to her. He had boldly rushed to meet her and demand answers but never sure where to start.

“Hey.”, she greeted surprised at his sudden appearance.

“Hey.”, he replied unsure.

“What are you doing here?” She asked in confusion though she was glad that she got to see him today. She had missed meeting him at his university despite waiting for a long time.

He raised the book in his hand as some sort of reply hoping that she would draw her own conclusions without having to explain himself. When he realized that she was not getting his point, he thanked her instead and began making excuses.

“I wanted to thank you for coming all the way to return it. I remembered that you work at a clothing store and I needed to get a coat for my mom’s birthday. That’s why I thought I could kill two birds with a stone.”

“Oh. That’s good then. I can help you with that, I’m sure we have something that you can give your mother. And you don’t need to thank me, it was nothing.”

They managed to find something good enough as a gift for his mother and Nana had personally tended to him even though it was way past the store’s regular closing time. Sunwoo was glad he was quick enough to come with an excuse before he ended up making his intentions more obvious. His mom’s birthday was over last month but he was sure she would love to receive another present, though it made a hole in his pocket.

He offered to wait for her till she closed the store , since his intention of coming to see her was to get some explanation. As she caught up to him, he learned that her home was a walking distance from the store and he offered to walk her home. He was glad when she did not refuse his offer. As they began walking, they were silent with only her asking irrelevant questions which he replied to curtly.

Anger and irritation began to build up in him at her nonchalance  and causal manner again. He thought that she had come all the way to see to him because she had something say, it was obviously not for a book. He hoped that she just did not come to show that she now wanted to become friends  and just be causal with forgoing the past. He clenched his fists in frustrations while heaving out a deep sigh and stopped in his tracks, causing her to turn around and stare at him in question.

“Are you going to continue behaving like this, Nana?”

“What do you mean?”

“I know you did not go all the way there, just to deliver a book! You definitely had something to say.”

Her silence and down cast eyes confirmed all his suspicions. But her prolonged silence agitated him further as his patience was withering thin.

“Tell me the truth Nana. Why did you come to see me? What did you want to say? Even that day you acted so casual as if there was nothing wrong or weird about it. You want us to be on friendly terms, is that it?”

“Maybe. But it’s just not that.”

“Then what is it? If you want to be friends, then I can’t do it. It’s weird to me.”

“Why can’t we? Why can’t we be on normal and friendly terms with each other? ”

“Its not easy……It’s weird and I can’t do that. How can be just forget that we had a past and act normal. It’s not a necessity for us. We can just become strangers to each other since we do not have a real reason for it.”

“I’m not asking for us to be best buddies. I just want to civil enough where we can ask how the other is doing.”

“No. I don’t want that. You had five years to contact me  and ask me how I’m doing. You can’t just ask me to forget that you suddenly broke all contact with me and I had to just accept it.”

“I know that I’m at fault. I’m sorry that I even asked that from you.”

“Of course. We never even technically broken up with each other. I just had to accept that. Do you know how hard it was for me?”

“Of course I know. Did you think that it was not hard for me? What did you expect, did you think  we could manage a long distance relationship? It would make things harder.”

“One last call or goodbye would have been fine.”

“You could have called me as well. It was too difficult for me to even hear your voice. I was scared that I would drop everything and come running back to you. It was the same reason you did not try to contact me as well, because you knew that.”

Her confession seemed to shut him up and she looked on the verge of tears. H seemed to calm down and tried to calm her as well. He must have upset ted her too much.. He was too upset to even notice that they had caught attention of a few passersby.

“I’m sorry too, I was too upset and vented it out on you. But I really want to know why you wanted to see me. ”

” After that day, I kept thinking about you. So I wanted to talk with you, catch up with you and know how you have been doing. I wanted to apologize as well.”

“Me too. After seeing you, even I wanted to meet you again.  But the fact that you were so causal, bothered me a lot. I felt like an only idiot holding on to the past.”

“I behaved that way because I did not want it to be awkward than it already was. ”

Sunwoo let out a small laugh at her reply because he really was idiot. Nana could not be that insensitive but he was glad to know that the feelings was mutual. Slowly they really began catching up, filling in all the gaps regarding their life and family. They particularly left out asking details about the eachother’s love life, since it would just lead to awkwardness or disappointment. They had met each other on a blind date so it was dumb to think that they would have not thought about other people since each other. Though it was true in Sunwoo’s case where he refused to commit to a relationship.

“I have younger brother now.” Nana surprised him.

“Woah. When did that happen?”

“Two years after I left. He is three now. Thing’s turn around after he was born. My family has never been happier.”

“That’s great news. But wasn’t it difficult for your mom?”

“Yeah it was. It took a toll on her health because of her age. We were struggling financially too. Even, I had to work  to bring in some money. Those were such hard times, that I just wanted to run back into your arms. ”

That statement from her got Sunwoo’s heart racing and he cursed at himself for this was not the time to have such thoughts.

“But I couldn’t do it. My parents had given up their money and power filled life for my demand of having a normal life. They did so much for me since then. But when he was born, my father’s business that he set up with a friend began to pick up. I received a scholarship for my designing school and I began to sell a few of my designs. Our family has gotten closer as well. I never had been so close to my parents. They even came all the way to my aunt’s to convince me and promise me to start a new life, but that couldn’t have happened here. ”

Now that he heard her side of the story he understood that he had been such her jerk who only focused on his hurt feelings and disregarded her feelings. They slowly picked up their pace back till they reached near her home.

“So how long are you going to be in Korea?”

“I moved permanently. My parents and brother will be moving back here soon too.”

“I’m sorry Nana. For being such a jerk. I promise I will try so that we can be on friendly terms.”

“I missed you.” She whispered to him while embracing him in short hug before he could react, she backed away and bid him farewell before returning home. Sunwoo gathered his thoughts back as his frustrations all went away and he felt relieved. He admitted while smiling to himself.

“I missed you too.”

Perfect Match Chapter 4 [Monstar fanfic]

feat17

4.A chance or luck

It  had been over two weeks since Sunwoo had meet Nana and had gone back to his daily life routines. He was still indecisive whether he wanted to see her again. It felt better to not stir things up that had been hidden beneath their memories. He decided that it was just better to give since it was no longer going to lead them anywhere.

He was currently having Lunch with Kangwoo, since they had a three hour lecture after their lunch break, when Kangwoo felt that it was the most appropriate time to bring up Nana in the conversation yet again. Sunwoo so wished his friend had a silent mode on him that he could press whenever he got annoying.

“Don’t get upset. I’m not pressuring you or anything. But what should I tell HaNa ? She has been asking me about what happened?”

“Tell her the usual.”

“I think Nana did not tell her about you two. Do you think we should just be truthful?”

“No.Don’t do that. Just let things be as they are. She does’nt want to tell anyone, then why should I?”

“So, you have decided that you won’t call her at all?”

“Yeah…….I think it’s for the best.”

“You done?”

“Yeah.”

“Then, lets leave before we are late for class.”

“Ok.”

The two of them headed to their class and just as they were about to enter their classroom, they were approched by one of their classmate. He handed Sunwoo a bag which confused him.

“What’s this?”

“Some girl was waiting for you for a long time ouside the building. She asked me whether I knew you and when I told that I did, she asked me as a favor if I could give this to you. She said that she wanted to return since you left it behind and wanted to give it to you personally but was running late.”

“Thank you.”

“No problem.”

Their classmate walked by and Sunwoo opened the bag to see its contents. He was suprised to find his book that he had been trying to look for a few days. It then hit him. It was the same book that he had been reading before his date with Nana at the cafe. Now that he could recall, he definitely remembered leaving it on their table even after they left their table. How exactly did the book end up here?

“Sunwoo, what is in it?”

“It’s my book. It left it at the cafe last time.”

“Hey, look there is a note attached.”

You left it at the cafe last time and Iwanted to return it.I waited for a while but I had to leave, so I am sending it through your classmate.Sorry.

-Nana

Kangwoo handed over the note to Sunwoo who re-read the note several times to let it sink in. Nana came all the way to his college to return a book. How did she have it in the first place, they had left the cafe together. Sunwoo was beyond confused and the same time pleasantly suprised.

“What are you going to do now?”

“I don’t know.”

“What do you mean you don’t know? She came here all the way to see you.”

“You really think so?”

“C’mon you are not that dumb. You really think that she came all the way here and waited to give you a book?”

“I just don’t get it. If she wanted to see me, why did’nt she give me her number?”

“Did you ask her or give her your number?”

“No.”

“Of couse, you did’nt. Look, I think she wants to meet you again. Try to talk it out.”

“Okay, I will think about it.”

“Good. Now, lets go to class.”

The whole time during class, the only thing that Sunwoo could think about was Nana’s sudden appearance at his school. It felt too much just to be a simple visit to return a book. The sheer fact that she had waited for him or even the simple fact of returning a silly book was puzzling to him. When was his issue with the his past love ever going to end. It took years with Seyi and now Nana.

What sort of cruel deeds did he do in his past life, maybe he was a complete player in the past life that’s why now he ends up pining over a single girl for years. His friend kept nudging him to pay attention in class but he was way past the point of distraction. He was going to to have a mental breakdown soon if he got no answers.

He fingers fidgeted in his pocket until he could feel the sharp edge of a card. The card that Nana had given him had the address of her store. Yes, he was carrying it around and he was not sure why but now he is glad that he did. If Nana could come all the way here to return a book, he could go down there to thank her.

As soon as the last class was over, Sunwoo packed his belongings and fled but his friend was fast enough to catch up and Sunwoo did not want to answer him.

“Sunwoo, where are you fleeing off to?”

“Nothing.I just need to be somewhere. I’ll come back soon.”

“Sunwoo, no can do. We got a group report to finish, they are waiting.”

Oh no. He completely forgot about it. It will be too late if he left after the meeting, but he could’nt mess up with his group members. He may have to postpone seeing her yet another day.

Two of his group members were half an hour late. He should have just left and not waited this long. He would try to compensate later but his conscience did not let him.

“Sunwoo, you look restless like hell. Where do you have to be?”

“It’s nothing. I’m fine.”

“Is it about Nana? Are you going to see her?”

“No, I mean yes.”

“You should have said so sooner, fool. Wait let me see.”

His friend called out to his two other group members and convince them to start the meeting, since Sunwoo was running late. After the main discussion was over, he asked Sunwoo to leave and convinced everyone that he would fill him in later.

“Leave before I change my mind. Make me proud.” He patted his friend on the back.

“Thank you. I will treat you.”

It was close to the store’s closing time and Sunwoo just hoped that she would still be there. For he knew that another night would just be pure torture.

Perfect Match Chapter 3 [Monstar fanfic]

feat173.Why now?

On his way back, Sunwoo began to wonder as to how he happened to meet Nana after all these years.Five years.Five long years, had passed since they had seen or spoken to each other. Seriously, what were the odds? Both of them had changed, past their teenage into adulthood, living completely separate lives.

Why now? Why now of all times did he happen to meet her. He began questioning himself with no answer forming in his mind. She had changed so much much that he did not know whether to be happy or sad by it. She looked so happy and relaxed when she saw him. Her laid back and friendly manner made him wonder if she was the same person he knew back then. Her casual and unconcerned approach sparked a disappointed feeling such that he decided to bring up the past just for moment. He instantly gave up when he felt that he was the only one clinging to things that were supposed to be bygones. So he decided to endure it and move on.

Moving on. It’s such a simple yet complicated concept. You are supposed to let go of things like everyone else does whether or not you have some closure. Just when you think that you have move past all your past regrets, hurt, feelings and relationships that you left behind, one instance is enough to ruin all your effort.

It happened with him before when he met Seolchan and Seyi after years from childhood. He began reflecting on his regrets for his friendship with Seolchan and his feelings for Seyi again resurfaced. Hush, but all in vain though he did get some sort of closure in the end. With Nana, there wasn’t any need for closure and they knew that they just had to accept their fate.

To be honest, he hadn’t thought about Nana for quite a while. They had been apart for so long that it was bound to happen. Past high-school, he got busy with his studies, college, work and friends, just trying to shape up his life. He had taken up some major decisions in his life thought out this time.

He moved out from his parents home and tried to live on his own. He got a scholarship and took up part time jobs to cover his living expenses. When he had announced his decision to his parents, they were adamantly against it. They had grown overprotective of him after loosing his sister, but Sunwoo had made his decision. His father refused to speak to him for quite a while but it ended through the interference of his mother. He still visits his parents from time to time. His mother would still send foods and things under the pretext of his roommate, Kangwoo, but Sunwoo pretended to be oblivious because he understood his mother’s heart.

On the other hand, his roommate was a terrible which is why he always caught on when his friend tried to scheme him into attending set ups. Sunwoo initially resisted strongly but slowly relented against his friends efforts.

He replayed the scene in his mind, when both of them exited the cafe. He felt natural holding the door for her and even walking beside her. The occasional moments when their hands brushed ever so lightly, sent a familiar tingle in his heart. He noticed her blushing too, glad to know that he was not the only one affected. When she was about to leave, she handed him her store card which had her stores details asking to drop by if he ever needed anything. She did not actually give away her number to him, that meant that she did not want to meet again.

“So how did the date go?”, Kangwoo asked him the umpteenth time when Sunwoo still refused to answer him.

“Why did you take so long, if you did not like her? You bailed out of all dates within an hour. Tell me the truth before I call and ask her.”

“We were talking so it took us long. I just dropped her and came here for dinner.”

“That’s great did.Did you get her number?”

“No. She just gave me this.” He said as he tossed Nana’s store card to his friend.

“Does this mean you are going to meet her?”

“No.She was just being nice.”

“No, she was not.How do you know that? I met her quite a few times, she never gave me her card.”

“She is my ex. You idiot.”

“What? Your high school girlfriend. The one and only.”

“Yes. ”

“Oh.”

“Now, are you happy?”

“Sorry, dude. I did not know it was her.”

” That’s okay.”

Kangwoo was shocked at Sunwoo’s admission. He never really spoke about his ex or how they broke up. He only knew that she was his only ever girlfriend since then. He never found him still pining over his past so he assumed that he was over it. But now, looking at his behavior ,he understood that his friend was far from over Kim Nana. Who knew, that the world would be such a small place?

Now that he knew who his ex was, Kangwoo realized that Sunwoo’s standards were way different from what he described. Heck, she was the complete opposite of it and he had him totally fooled. Maybe, he decided to change his preference after their breakup.

Sunwoo had been distracted ever since that day and almost a week had passed since then. He regretted on setting him up, but his friend was really tiring at times. He only spent his time at working, studying or occasionally with him. Zero social life. Maybe, he should have just let him be.

He sighed as his found staring intently at the card, once again. If he wants to meet her, he should go through it at least once.

“Ya. If you want to meet her so badly, just go. Don’t act like such a loser.”

“I don’t know what you are talking about.”

“If you are trying to make feel guilty, then you already win. If not, then please get over it. I can get her no. from HaNa if you want.”

“You shall do no such thing.”

“Okay.Just tell me this one thing. Did you two have a nasty break up? Did she dump you or cheat on you?”

“No.”

“Then why?”

“We never officially broke up.”

“What?”

“She went away to U.S. for a few months. But due to some reasons, her stay became permanent and we just stop contacting each other. So we officially never called it quits.”

“Did she say anything?”

“No. She was so normal. So even I made no attempts to drag the topic. We just spoke too casually. That’s what weirded me out”

“Do you still like her?”

“I don’t know. We haven’t seen each other for five years.”

“Then call her, meet her and become sure of what you want. Or just let it go.Don’t mope around.”

“Arasso.”

Sunwoo swept his hand through his hair and set the card aside and prepared to call it a night. He wondered whether he should meet Nana and properly have a conversation with her or just let it go. He would soon make his decisions whether or not to dig deep for answers that may or may not hurt him.

“Sunwoo, why did you lie to me?”

“About what?”

“Your ideal type. You totally bluffed me.That why all my previous efforts went in vain.”

“No. I did not lie. I described to you how my first love was. It was not Nana.”

“Who knew you would have such a complicated love life?”

“Shut up and go to sleep .”

Perfect Match Chapter 2 [Monstar fanfic]

feat172.Catching up

Sunwoo was still dumbstruck on seeing Nana after nearly five years since their high graduation. He noticed that she had a completely different aura around her than before. She was smiling more easily than she used too. Heck, he could count the no. of times he had seen her smile on his fingertips.

She was smiling so genuinely at him that he couldn’t help but smile warmly at her too. His friend was right, she was much prettier than the girls he was set up with.

He noticed that she had gotten a lot more feminine and softer in her dressing style. She had worn makeup which she never did before. It was weird at the same time pleasant, looking at these changes in her which happened in the past five years. He realised that he had been staring at her for far too long.

“It is weird meeting up like this after all this while right?”

“Yeah it is. How have you been?”

“I’m doing good. What about you? When did you get back?”

“It’s been about seven months now.    I happened to meet Seolchan back in the U.S. when he was on tour. He   told me that how others have been doing but he did not know much about you.”

” Yeah. We haven’t really talked much since graduation. Just drifted apart with our busy lives. Forget me, you just broke contact with all of us since you left.”

Her face wavered for a second and she lost her smile through rest of the conversation.

” How was life in the U.S.?”

“It was fine. Setting up a new life there after leaving everything behind was tough on our family. My parents had it harder since they left  everything they for my sake.”

” We are glad it worked out for you Nana. ”

Memories was rushing back for the both of them. Neither wanted to give in to their weakness in front of each other. They say in awkward silence for a while.

Nana couldn’t help but think about handsome he got over the years. He looked buffer with broad shoulders and she could swear he looked a lot taller. Even his facial features had changed with a sharp jawline but he still had the same look in his eyes. That was what made her fall for him in the first place but she would never admit that to him. She broke from her trance when he started talking to her again.

“So how long are you going to be in Korea?”

” I’m here on my job, so mostly probably I’m going to stay here for good.”

Sunwoo was not sure as to why it made him happy.

” May I ask where you are working for?”

“I’m not working for a company.  But I got a chance to open my store         with the help of some sponsors. ”

” That’s  great. ”

Nana looked at the book that was placed on the side of their table. He still had the habit of reading at every chance that he got. This caused her to smile at which she earned a puzzled look from Sunwoo.

” I heard you are studying law. How is that working out for you?”

” Yeah. It’s good.”

” Are you still working into music?”

“Not much as before. But still whenever I get the chance, I play or sing. U?”

” I did some gigs back in US with a band for a while. But after I was offered a scholarship to study fashion designing, I didn’t do it as much as I used to.”

“How do you know HaNi and Kangwoo? They will be surprised to know that we know each other, won’t they?”

“I’m sure they will be very surprised. I know HaNi when we were interning at the same company. I don’t really know Kangwoo, I met him just once or twice.”

“How are we being so casual Nana?     Shouldn’t it be more awkward? It was so hard for me back then when you just left and didn’t contact me at all.”

“It was hard for me too.  When I left, I was not sure if the move was permanent. I did not contact you because it would make even more difficult for me to be away.”

“I know. I’m sorry…..I did not mean to say it. It’s all in the past.”

Sunwoo wanted to say so many things to her. He wanted to yell at her, hug her, comfort her and so much more. But he couldn’t do it now. They were old acquaintances now, just somebody from each others past. Time passed and changed them and their lives. Especially the situation in which they met, was awkward in itself. He did not even expect to see her again.

“I’m sorry for breaking contact, for leaving, for everything.”

“Don’t apologise. There was nothing you or I could do then. I knew that when you left, you would be gone for good. ”

“You never tried to contact me too.”

“Hmm….I’m sorry too. Like you said, it would make it harder for us.”

Sunwoo avoided eye contact with her as he wanted to change the topic that he bought up in the first place.

“Let’s forget it. No more talk about it. How are things between you and your parents?”,

“We have never been happier together. We had many good things happen to us since we left.”

“I’m happy for you. Nana.”

“Ahh…thank you. You have changed a lot since I last saw you. For the good. You speak a whole lot more.”

“You too. You never spoke so openly before. I’m glad.”

Their conversations took a pleasant turn again, though few words were spoken. They spoke in little words about their work, their friends. That’s it, without much personal feelings involved.

When they finally did leave, Sunwoo dropped her till her stop before she have him her card of her store. He bid her farewell  and left for his way home.

He received a text from his friend whether he will be joining them for dinner.
Joining us for dinner or still busy with your date??😏
-Kangwoo

I just left. I’ll meet you directly at the restaurant.
-Sunwoo

Since you took so long. I’m guessing you liked her.
-Kangwoo

You have no idea.
-Sunwoo

Why? You will meet her again, right?
-Kangwoo

Maybe. I’ll tell you later.
-Sunwoo

K.
-Kangwoo

His friend had no idea what news was in store for him.

Perfect Match Chapter 1 [Monstar fanfic]

feat171.Blind dates

The bright lighting, simple and classy interior, the aroma of coffee beans and the dim music in the background of the cafe made it a wonderful spot for a casual first date.

Sunwoo glanced at his watch and concluded that his date was already 20 minutes late. That was a minus point in his opinion.  He wouldn’t be here if not for his nosy friends.

This was not the first time his friends set him up on a blind date without his knowledge.

Their tricks were not so amusing anymore. At first, he found it funny as they tried hard not to let him know. But now, he just always understood  what they were up to so he just went along with it.

He gets that they were concerned that he hasn’t had a girlfriend since they have known him. But sometimes, he wished they would just let him be.

He has been out on plenty of blind dates thanks to their courtesy, but none of them worked out for him. Some were pretty, some were smart but none of them clicked for him. The most he went out with a girl was about three weeks. Maybe, he was just not ready for a long term relationship right now.

Hey, she not here yet. I’m just gonna wait 5 min more, then I’m leaving.
-Sunwoo

Don’t leave. She’ll be there. You won’t be disappointed.
-Kang Woo

5 minutes later.

She not here. I’m leaving.
-Sun woo

His phone rang in a instant after sending the message.

” Sunwoo ya, don’t just leave. I talked to her friend. She said she’ll be there any minute. ”

“She is  already half hour late. She shouldn’t make me her date wait, that’s just rude.”

” Actually, she is not late. You’re early. I did not know that you would go there without fussing, unlike other times. It would take an hour only to convince you. It’s all your fault.”

“How is it my fault? I’m not even dressed for a date. ”

” Don’t worry dude. She is really cool in that sense. She is really pretty  too.”

” All the girls that you set me have been pretty. I’m not even sure how it makes her different.”

” She not really your ideal type. I set you up with girls who are short and have a small frame, cute face with long hair, or with girl who have a sweet and kind personality  like you described about your ideal type. But you did not like anyone.”

” I did not ask you to. I’m happy with being alone for now.”

“Dude, your last girlfriend was back in high school. You need to enjoy dating too and not just immerse yourself in books. This girl may not exactly be your ideal type but I think that she will really suit you. This girl is much prettier than the previous girls. ”

” Wait. I think she is here. Hold on.”

Sunwoo watched the slim figure enter through the cafe’s door dressed in a leather jacket over a pair of white tee and ripped jeans adorned with high length boots.
She had a tall and slim figure with shoulder-length brown wavy hair and black sunglasses that blocked the view of her face.

Sunwoo berated himself that he should have dressed better. She was definitely pretty but his friend forgot to mention that she was hot too.

Suddenly, something nagged at the back of his mind and the closer she stepped ,the more familiar she looked.

“What is her name? The girl you set me up with?”

“Kim Nana. Why, you know her? She just got back from U.S. few months ago. ”

He cut the call and stood  he finally came face to face with his blind date.  She took off her sunglasses and looked at him with the same doe eyes with a surprised look.

“Sunwoo…..!”

“Kim Nana…..It’s been a while.”

“Yes….it has.” She said as she returned him a smile.

Meeting Kim Nana as his blind date was the last thing he expected.

7.Smiles go a long way

It had been two weeks since the two young teens had decided to turn their fake relationship official and start dating. Definitely one of the best decisions they had made in a while. It had been so blissful that neither of them wanted to lose it.

Nana was happy to finally have him treat as more than a classmate, band mate,a friend or a fake fiance. He was such a perfect boyfriend and treated her very well, which always made her a blushing mess. She was too cautious and shy around him, because he was sometimes too sweet to her to be true. All the times that he hurt her before, just seemed to vanish in just a matter of days.

Maybe she was being a fool in love, but who cares when she was this happy. The wait had been too long for her to have complains now, and she was going to make the best of it. Sometimes in the middle of the night, her mind would be occupied with fears and doubts of things going wrong suddenly or this being a dream.

The preparations for the wedding had been going well, since the elders of the two families were handling it. Nana could notice the conflict of interest between the two families but her parents did not want to let her know, how much ever she tried to prod. She was getting along with her parents much better, and they were happy to finally have their daughter open up to her again. The girl had finally found happiness in life with acceptance and love from the people who had become important to her.

Sunwoo, on the other hand to finally have his feelings reciprocated. Though, his girlfriend had not yet admitted her feelings, he hoped that her behavior towards him were a proof of hidden feelings. She would blush and smile around him a whole lot more.

He would walk her home from school or either accompanied her at her studio, whenever he found the time. They even went out  on small dates, even if meant to grab a quick meal or get their wedding outfits ready. Sunwoo had gotten a bit bolder in expressing his affection towards Nana by holding her hand while walking together or even occasionally wrapping his arm around her shoulders. He even managed to sneak her into warm embraces which she did not seem mind, though she would get shy about it and playfully push him away. .

He had to admit that this side of Nana made his heart warm because he was the only one to see it, hopefully. Regrets lingered in his mind about the way they got together, rather than first entering a fake relationship first, he wished they had started on a better note like other couples. But then, what was normal to them?

Forgetting the technicalities, enjoying her and their time together would be his main priority so that they could nurture their relationship worthy of a real marriage in the future. He is now trying to makeup for all the times, he hurt Nana by treating her well and show his sincerity. Best part of dating was that he now no longer had to make excuses to see her or hesitate to say the truth about wanting to see her.

Whole along since the day he took her name in front of his parents, his daily life had changed so much. He was easily distracted and occupied in thoughts with new suprises being thrown at his face. Truth be told, it was affecting his academics and performance at school. He had no idea about how Nana was faring so far but he hoped it was not worse than before.

Classes had been going on as usual, and the gossip and whispers was slowly dying out. Their classmates had gotten used to seeing them together and accepted the idea. Though they got sly smiles or annoyed expressions directed at them, but her boyfriend did not seem to mind it, so she choose to ignore it as well. Addressing him as her boyfriend still felt weird, but their labels were already messed up.

They did not interact much at school, similar to before since it did not feel very natural to them. He no longer sat beside her and was back to earlier his earlier seating arrangement. Though, occasionally they would catch each other sneaking glances at the other and end up sending embarrassed smiles to each other. Mostly, it was Sunwoo smiling and Nana looking away which he did not fail to tease her about.

Other times, when they would be engaged in conversation with their band mates, his hand would rest on the back  of her chair or he would lean towards her with his palms holding his weight against her desk. They were certain subtle moments that made her inwardly rejoice. She found him the silliest when he would stand closer her or suddenly call her name to ask a silly question to make his presence known, whenever KyuDong was around.

She had a face to face conservation with Kyudong where she thanked him for his feelings but turned him down and the guy accepted it gracefully. He even apologized for causing problems between her and Sunwoo, for which he was forgiven. It was that incident, that got the two of them together but she couldn’t admit that to him. Though they had resolved the issue, it did not mean that all was well. It was still awkward, since Nana sensed that DoNam and SeolChan were aware of what had transpired between the three of them.

Nana had received a text message from Sunwoo asking her if she was free for the entire weekend. When she gave an affirmative answer, he asked her to go out on a proper and  full fledged date. Not just a quick bite or a hanging out at her studio, but an entire day at the movies, shopping and a meal together. He had already seeked an approval from her parents so that they could stay out a little bit more later than usual, given that he wanted their date to be special.

As she set her phone aside, her palms automatically moved to cover the blood rushing to her cheeks. The thought of spending more time with him, sent her heart at a rushing pace. They have spent plenty of time together alone recently  or their previous coupon dates, but this time it was different since he it would be their first official date initiated by him. And the fact that he went out of his way to seek her parent’s approval, made it swoon worthy.

Just a day away, and she wanted to choose an outfit for the date, but she found nothing that would make her happy. She finally decided to put together her own outfit by making it herself as she shuffled through her own designs. This would be one of the most rare occasions where she made clothes for herself. This reminded her of the jacket that she made for Sunwoo long back and contemplated if he still had it. She pushed it to the back of her head before her mood turned sour and got to work.

Days passed quickly and it was finally the weekend which the young couple had highly anticipated. Sunwoo messaged asking her about where would pick her up from- her home or her work studio. She insisted on meeting him directly at the theater but he was adamant so she finally relented and told him to come to her studio apartment. She wore a splatter print blouse with peter-pan collar and long black sleeves over a pair of black leggings adorned with silver chain, and wore light makeup letting down her hair. She got rid of her curls and straightened her hair which made it look longer in length. It was neither too flashy nor too subtle and wondered if Sunwoo would like it. She was never too feminine with wearing skirts or dresses very often unlike Seyi.

She received a message of Sunwoo saying that he was waiting outside her studio, she quickly did a once over at the mirror and left. When she finally met up with him, he started at her for a while before giving her a warm smile. She walked to his side biting her lips in anticipation waiting for him to say something wondering if she looked too weird but he broke her chain of thoughts quickly.

“Shall we leave? We might be late for the movie.”

She nodded quickly and began to walk side by side without talking much. It felt all too weird for them as it was their first official date and neither of them had much to contribute to the silence. Sunwoo had decided to clear the awkwardness and began asking her questions of what kind of movie she wanted to watch and what she wanted to do after the movie and sorts.

Slowly easing into the conversation, he grabbed her hand in his when they were crossing the road but still did not let go. He tried to act non-chalant about it as it were completely natural for them, but Nana could call his bluff when he refused to meet her eyes. She blushed intensely and held his hand back ever so lightly that caused Sunwoo to smile to himself. The day had already begun on a good note and he hoped it would remain that way.

“Which movie should we watch?” Sunwoo asked as they reached the theater,

“I’m not really sure. I hoped you already had something in mind.”

“Ah, so how about we watch a comedy movie like last time?” he suggested.

“Last time?” Nana was lost as to what he was trying to say.

“Hmm, when we had to watch the movie twice because of the reporter.”

“Oh, now I remember.” Nana chimed.

It was kind of a bittersweet memory for her because the first time they watched it, she was happy that he was enjoying it alone with her.  The second time was horrible because the jokes had already become stale to them or it had to do with the fact that Seyi, Seolchan , Sunwoo and herself were upset at meeting each other in the given circumstances. The reporter’s interference had made it all the more worse and she had to invite the rest of the gang for their fake group date. One of the worst moments for all of them in their life so far. Each teen had his or her own reason to be upset amongst the four of them.

“I have no intention of putting us through the torture of watching it again. Let’s try to enjoy it just once between the two of us.” Sunwoo said with smirk as warmly as he could and managed to charm his way out of a situation yet again. Nana smiled back at him and nodded showing that she agreed with his suggested.

They booked their tickets quickly and grabbed popcorn & drinks to enjoy the movie. The movie was fairly decent and both seemed to be enjoy the jokes and the slapstick comedy involved. Similar to last time, Nana smiled to herself looking at him enjoying the movie with her and this time was not a forced or fake date. Sunwoo on the other hand, was happy that she was enjoying the movie a whole lot more than last time where she rarely laughed. He was intrigued as well as fascinated with her new side that smiled and laughed so earnestly in the past two weeks and wondered why she confined her emotions to such a degree.

Sunwoo wondered why he wasted so much time with something so hopeless with Seyi when he could have spent more time with Nana. He regretted expiring out the coupons and losing chance of what could have been a better start of a relationship between them. Now, he doubted whether he had already felt an attraction for Nana but pushed it away because of hid stubborn feelings for Seyi.

It was better late than never and he would make up for all the lost time if Nana allowed him too. He still mulled over the fact whether she really liked him back given that she had been so cold just two weeks ago. No one could guess over their now lovi-doviness that their relation between the two had been so strained and distant.

He guessed that she still reciprocated his feelings but he had to hear it from her today, one of the reasons to ask her out so suddenly. Apart from the fact that he wanted to spent time with her and be better to her. Half way through the movie, he sly grabbed her hand again in the dark which hardly startled her anymore. But she began to wonder if Sunwoo had always been this bold and expressive.

After the movie, they headed shopping much like their previous coupon dates but this time they bought gifts for each other. Sunwoo had purchased hats that she merely intended to try on to which she argued against. He argued back that he only bought them because it really suited her and it would be a waste. Nana pouted at his stubbornness and in retaliation dragged him into one of the stores. She  made him try on shirts which she liked and purchased the one that she thought looked the best on him.  This time it was Sunwoo’s turn argue at her stubbornness but he gave in more easily than she had.

“Nana, you should have not have bought this. ”

“I bought this simply because it suited you or else it would have been a waste.”

“But it’s not the same as a mere hat. ”

“You bought four of them and besides I think what I bought you from my choice suits you better.”

“In that case, let’s go to a store quickly and get you something of my choice.”

“You won’t know anything of a girl’s taste, let alone mine.”

“You could have just made me something. You are good at that aren’t you?”

“You would not like them anyway.”

“Why wouldn’t I? I still have the jacket you left me. I did not think that it would suit me but it does.”

“You still have the jacket?” She asked and he nodded in approval which spread a warm feeling in her chest.

The rest of the day through dinner went well as they dined at a restaurant as made small talk. Nothing major, with Sunwoo doing most of the talking and Nana answering with small replies to his questions. But there was a whole different manner in her talking today. She used more words and gone was the passive face and monotone in her voice and expression. There was more life and emotion in her voice other than hurt or anger. Just like her singing, her smiles and words held more depth and meaning today.

He could swear that he was more attracted to her than he ever was before, not to mention that she looked pretty today. She was not too out of her comfort zone, but enough to let anyone see how pretty she was. He failed to tell her that since he chickened out. He did not know how to tell her that without sounding too cheesy or cliché.

Sunwoo walked her to her home just as he did now almost every other day. They had been silent since the dinner as Sunwoo was still contemplating about asking her feelings without scaring her away. Nana too did not seemed to mind the silence as she enjoyed just walking with him. They stood for while a little away from her home, when Nana broke her silence.

“Thanks for leaving me. It’s getting late. You should head home.” She said with concern and shyness in her tone.

“Yeah. I will. I had a great time today.”

“Me too.”

“Okay then. See you.”

None of them made a move or leave or even spoke a word. Nana decided to make a move and leave before they ended up standing there the whole night.

“I will leave then. See you.”

“Nana. wait?” He called out in panic.

“What? Something wrong? ”

“Nothing. I just wanted to say that you looked pretty today.”

“Ah,….thankyou.” She blushed furiously and was glad that her efforts paid off.

“Actually I have something to say.”

“What is it?” she asked.

“Not say. But I have to ask you?”

“Say it.” His nervousness worried her.

“Last time, when I told you I have feelings for you and you agreed to date me, I assume that you feel something back as well but I want to be sure now. It’s been driving me crazy thinking of the possibilities.”

“Ah….Huh…what?..” She fumbled in her speech in utter shock.

“I don’t mean to pressure you. I just want to be sure without any false assumptions. I don’t want you to bear the burden if you don’t feel the same. I wanted to know if there is the slightest chance. ” He bit his lips as he rambled on his speech but was cut short with Nana’s curt reply.

“Yes.” She said looking down on the ground. There was no point in hiding anyway since her behavior towards him already gave it away. It seemed foolish if she kept denying, or it may also cause him to move away again.

“You sure?” He was already smiling but wanted to be sure and when she nodded  in reply, he was ecstatic.

He grabbed her hands in his and rubbed her palms affectionately with his thumb and let out a sigh of relief. They stood for while like that and Sunwoo’s eyes kept darting towards her face, most specifically her lips. The sight of her biting her lip did not help either.

“You can move away if you don’t like it. I will understand.”

He warned her and slowly leaned towards her giving her time to back out if she did not want to. When he was sure that she was not moving away, he leaned further and closed the distance between them. He grabbed one of her shoulders softly and kissed her tenderly. He felt her responding back  to his kiss as she leaned into him and he drew her closer to him. Then slowly parting away, he intently observed her face up close with a tender look in his eyes enjoying their blissful moment. He saw color returning to her cheeks and felt his own cheeks and neck grow warm as well. He added more distance between them as he let go of her and saw her tearing her gaze away from him to the ground.

“Nana”, he called her warmly as asked her to quickly go inside and took his leave as well before promising to talk via messages as he reached home.
